Kingsholm Post Office closed today at 1pm
The popular and busy post office in Kingsholm closed at 1pm today (5th of June). It was a victim of the government’s plan to axe 2,500 post offices nationwide. In Gloucestershire 26 are set to close with many communities affected.
Liberal Democrat councillors Sebastian Field and Jeremy Hilton visited the post office today to personally thank postmaster Eusuf Jasat and his assistant Bob Lawrence.
Cllr. Jeremy Hilton said: “I want to thank Eusuf and Bob for the excellent, friendly service they have provided to their customers. Kingsholm Post Office might not be popular with the government, but it was with the local community, especially the elderly. There was no sound business case to close the post office; it has been shut primarily because it is within a mile of the central post office in Kings Square.”
“We must thank everyone who wrote into object to the closure of Kingsholm Post Office. It is just sad that no one listened. Kingsholm has a large number of elderly and disabled people who will now have to travel to Kings Square and queue for ages,” said Cllr. Sebastian Field.
